DIY Planter Box

Join Amanda Mertz as she crafts an incredible DIY “planter box” in our latest Red Hot Building Planter Episode! This comprehensive and easy-to-follow tutorial is perfect for anyone looking to add a touch of handmade charm to their garden or patio.

Heres what you will need:

  • Chop Saw
  • Drill
  • Tape Measure
  • Clamps
  • Sander
  • Sandpaper
  • 4 – 8ft 1×6
  • 2 – 8ft 2xw
  • 1.2″ screws.
  • Stain

First, cut all of your wood. Out of the 1×6 board make six 36 inch cuts and six 18 inch cuts. Out of the 2×2 board make four 28 inch cuts. Out of the 1×2 board make two 34 1/4 inch cuts and two 17 inch cuts. Now that all the wood is cut, we can take two of our 2×2 and screw in 3 of our 18 inch cuts and repeat on the other side. Flip those upright and place a clamp on it. Attach your three 36 inch boards on each side. Then, screw in your legs to make the base. To finish the bottom of the planter, measure and cut four 1×6 pieces. Screw these cuts into our supports. Then, finish up the planter by sanding, staining, and lining the bottom with garden fabric.
